2020 is officially here, and you wouldn’t be the first homeowner to get hit by that new-year-urge to update your home. But don’t be fooled into thinking you need to do something drastic to give your home a fresh feel; a new coat of paint is one of the easiest ways to completely transform a space. Here are a few of 2020’s best color trends to inspire your next home painting project, brought to you by our professional painting services.
You can expect to see a lot of navy blue popping up in homes over the upcoming year. Pantone named the shade “Classic Blue” as their 2020 Color of the Year, and both PPG and Sherwin-Williams chose versions of navy as their Colors of the Year too. Dark, rich, and elegant, it’s easy to see why this color has become such a favorite in interior design. It’s a versatile shade that pairs well with many colors (neutrals like champagne are an especially stunning match) so you can use it for the entire space or as an accent color, giving any room a tranquil and dreamy atmosphere evocative of the night sky.
Some homeowners think champagne is a boring color, but if this is your stance you may want to reconsider it. Champagne is a timeless neutral that has been slowly making a comeback, replacing the prevalent cool grays and stark whites of the past few years, and it’s slated to be a big deal in 2020. This golden beige is a perfect glowy neutral for rooms with natural lighting. It will bring more warmth than cooler-toned neutrals, and it can be paired with bold, deeper shades as a perfect background color.
Blush has been a popular shade for the last few years, and it’s not going away anytime soon. In fact, both Benjamin Moore and HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams chose blushy pinks as their 2020 Colors of the Year. This soft, light pink has become a staple in interior design, no longer restricted to nurseries but instead encouraged in any room of the home. Paired with whites or beiges the effect is airy and modern, and when combined with darker tones such as navy or forest green it brings a warmth and friendliness to the color palette.
Green is the color of new life and creativity, which is the perfect mentality to bring into the new year. Olive green can be integrated into any space, either as an accent or as the main feature, especially in rooms with an abundance of natural light or woodwork. It blurs the line between the interior and the exterior as color comes back to the world for springtime, creating a space that is both calming and reinvigorating.
While color trends aren’t a demand to immediately repaint every room in your home, they are good indicators of the most stylish interior trends for the upcoming year should you decide to repaint in the near future. So even if you aren’t planning any home renovations for the new year, there’s always inspiration to be taken!
